Registration Committee

We established a Registration Committee early in 2003 which now includes Dr Ted Hughes, Sandra Dillon ( NZATS Registrar), Simon Donald (overseas Registration committee), Julie Bromley (Overseas Registration committee). Together, we have compiled a suitable application pack for Overseas Registrations and meet bi-monthly to discuss all applications for Registration and all return to work Technicians that have been away from our profession for more than 18 months.
The Record of Membership of Qualified and Trainee Technicians is currently being updated as this years' applications are being processed. The NZATS Record of Membership on this site is being updated at the same time. During the re-registration period those members that have re-registered, their names will be highlighted in BLACK, this will be for the 60 day re-registration period as per the Registration Regulations.

Registration Application Requirements

Registration subs are due on the 1st April expiring 31st March annually. NZATS Inc requires the minimum of 8 hours per week in clinical Anaesthetic Assistance to maintain Registration with us. If you have been away from practice for 18 months or more, you are required to completed a Return to Practice Orientation/Assessment. Please contact the Registrar for details.


Fees

NZ $100:00 (One Hundred Dollars) for all Trained Anaesthetic Technicians.
NZ $100:00 (One Hundred Dollars) for all Trainee Anaesthetic Technicians.


Copies of Documents

Certified Photo-copies of your documents, qualifications will be accepted only. This can be obtained from a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, or a Lawyer, and they need to have an official seal or stamp.


Registrations - FOR NEW ZEALAND APPLICANTS ONLY

Certified copies of all your documentation signed by a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, or Lawyer with official stamp or seal. Fill out your Registration form (contact the Registrar This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) Attach the appropriate evidence of Qualifications and Work History . Enclose Registration number and Practicing Certificate (ie from Nurses council if appropriate) along with the Qualification. Minimum requirement for registration is 8 hours per week hours averaged over 1 year.

Please note that you MUST qualify as a New Zealand applicant for these forms. Overseas applicants using these forms will not be accepted under any circumstance.

Return to Work
  • Less than 18 months: no extra requirements.
  • Greater than 18 months but less than 5 years: 3 month orientation pack.
  • Greater than 5 years: 3 months orientation, machine check and questions by two visiting examiners.
  • The Registrar should be contacted for further details.


Overseas Absense

Any member intending on travelling overseas for more than 12 months should notify the secretary in writing. A lesser fee of $20.00 per annum shall apply to maintain their name on the register. If they return to work in N.Z. as a technician before the 12 month period, the balance of the fee shall be paid and the APC will be issued.


Processing Fee

A Processing fee for non-resident, overseas applications, or those not previously Registered in New Zealand is NZ  $400:00 (Four Hundred Dollars) which is non-refundable, and has a year's life to complete Registration. If the applicant change their mind about registering with NZATS once the processing fee has been banked by NZATS this is non-refundable.  


ODPs and ODAs
  • CERTIFIED COPIES OF ALL YOUR DOCUMENTATION Signed by a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, or a Lawyer, and they need to have an official seal or stamp. 
  • Your completed Registration form. 
  • Evidence of your Qualifications. 
  • Evidence of your Work History. 
  • The appropriate page of your Passport with your photo ID. 
  • Three references (one from a Consultant Anaesthetist, and we need to be able to contact this person, so require a contact e-mail address.) 
  • Verification from HPC Office of your registration. 
  • H.P.C. (Health Professions Council) Certificate. 
  • NZ $400:00 Processing fee (a NZ money order) 
  • NZ $100:00  Certificate of Registration fee (a NZ money order) 

You are required to have the minimum of 2 years experience in Anaesthesia, post Qualification (A referee to verify this, and we need to be able to contact this person).

If less than 2 years experience then the applicant may be eligible for Provisional Regsitration. This will allow you to be employed by an NZATS certified training hospital only and the applicant will need to sit the NZATS Registration Exam within a year of Provisional Registration or working in New Zealand. This will give the applicant 2 opportunities of sitting the Registration Exam.

You will need to send evidence of your NZQA Assessment and certified copies of your qualifications (signed by a Justice of the Peace or a lawyer) 

  • Your completed Registration Application pack (contact the NZ Registrar) 
  • Evidence of your Qualifications 
  • A recent CV with your Work History 
  • The appropriate page of your Passport with your photo ID 
  • Birth certificate /marriage certificate/change of name needs to be inserted.
  • Three References, one needs to be from a Consultant Anaesthetist, and we need to be able to contact this person (email). 
  • Your course contents, and an English assessment 
  • Evidence of Registration with your Professional Body 
  • NZ $ 400:00 Processing fee (NZ money order)
  • NZ $ 100:00 Registration fee (NZ money order) 


You will need to have completed the minimum of two years Anaesthetic experience post Qualification, and we require a letter from your Clinical Director of Anaesthesia to confirm this, and we must be able to contact this person. Your application will be assessed by our Executive Board.

Associate Membership

An Associate member is a person, not eligible for full membership, who expresses an interest in the Association and wishes to receive the journal and other Association literature. Associate members are entitled to take part in Association meetings but have no voting rights. Associate membership does not imply that an individual is qualified or competent to practice as an Anaesthetic technician.

Practicing Certificate Sample Card

Plastic credit card size Annual Practising Certificates are now being issued to financial members who qualify to practice as an Anaesthetic Technician in New Zealand. When your application has been processed, a card will be issued to you and will be valid for the financial year. Please note that the actual card colour will change each year.
