Dear Member

Pursuant to section 120 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the Minister for Health, Tony Ryall has appointed Karen Bennett, as an Anaesthetic Technician member of the Medical Sciences Council, for a period of 3 years.

Following her appointment Karen has tendered her resignation as Chairperson of NZATS and Karen wishes us all well for the future.

We wish to notify the members of NZATS that the primary function of the MSC is to serve the public. The primary function of NZATS is to serve its members including Trainees.

Michele Peck, NZATS Outgoing Chairperson will take up the role of Acting Chairperson until a new Incoming Chairperson is appointed.

NZATS wish Karen well in her new position and thank her for the tremendous amount of hard work and commitment she has given to NZATS.

Andrew Warmington has also been appointed to the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, for a term of 2 years and has also tendered his resignation to NZATS. We do not know who his replacement is until after the next NZSA executive meeting. We thank Andrew for all his hard work and contributions to NZATS and tireless support of Anaesthetic Technicians.

Due to Karen’s resignation, we are calling for nominations for the position of Incoming Chairperson. This position will be held until the NZATS 2012 AGM where the role then becomes that of NZATS Chairperson. Then at the following AGM in 2013 the role becomes outgoing chair until the AGM in 2014.

To be eligible to nominate someone you must be a Qualified Anaesthetic Technician and a current financial member of NZATS. The person you nominate must also be a Qualified current financial member of NZATS, must agree to being nominated by you and be committed to this role for a 4 year term. They must also have the support of their hospital to fulfil this demanding role.
